Leaf season overlooks... and how long does the color last out here?

Was scrolling through the photos on my phone this week and ran across the ones from last October, coming in on Hwy 16 and then turning onto 330... I'll say it again, prettier than any calendar they sell at the Dollar General. Seemed to me it peaked around the last week of the month, then one windy night and a good rain took half of it.

Redbuds and dogwoods are doing their own show right now, so I got to thinking ahead. My sister-in-law wants to come down next fall and I'd like to show her something besides the same two spots I always drive to. Where do you folks pull over around the Bay and the lake for the best view? Quiet ones if there's such a thing in October...

And for those who've been here a good while, when does the color usually give out? I figure it's a two or three week window, but some years it seems to hang on into early November and other years it's gone before you can get the camera out.

Only other thing I'll add, a fellow I know in real estate says October is when his phone rings the most. People come up for the color and don't want to go home. Can't say I blame them.
